Choose Mopa for Anjuna and anywhere further north. For Calangute and Saligao, Mopa has a smaller edge, so a cheaper or better-timed Dabolim flight can still win. Compare the full cost of flight and taxi together, not the ticket alone.

Distance, time and fare side by side

Mopa is closer to all three places, and the gap is largest for Anjuna. Published distances differ by source, so treat this table as a planning guide and check live maps on your day.

DabolimSaligaoAbout 35 km50 to 65 min₹1,000 to ₹1,600

Two cautions apply. Route planners often show shorter times, such as 29 minutes from Mopa to Calangute, which we would not trust for a flight. Few sources quote Saligao at all, so those rows rest on thin data. Ask for a fixed fare to your exact address, and confirm at the counter or with your driver.

How the journey differs

The Mopa drive is mostly highway at the start. A 6.6 km six-lane link road joins the airport to NH-66, and a toll plaza sits on that road. In 2025 the car toll was notified at about ₹20, which is small, but ask if your taxi quote includes it.

Dabolim is near Vasco in the south, so a trip north usually runs past the Panaji area. That brings the capital's traffic into your journey, particularly at office hours. If you land at 6 pm on a working day, take the upper end of the time range, and add more if you are travelling in late December.

Taxis at each airport

Both airports have prepaid taxi counters, and the fare is fixed before you leave the terminal. A 2024 post from Mopa showed several approved vendors at counters near arrivals, including Goa Taxi. Dabolim's prepaid counters sit in its arrivals hall as well.

Uber and Ola are not a real option at either airport. Goa's Chief Minister ruled them out in June 2025, and 2026 airport guides still report them as unavailable there. GoaMiles, the state-endorsed app, has had a counter at Mopa, but one 2026 guide warns its Mopa fleet can run short in peak season.

Being collected by a friend? Mopa has been in dispute over pick-up charges. The Goan reported in January 2026 that Goa's civil aviation directorate had challenged a charge on vehicles stopping at the terminal, as the airport's agreement allows a free halt of two minutes at peak times and five off-peak. Ask your driver where to meet you and what the current rule is.

Buses at each airport

Both airports have a direct Kadamba shuttle to Calangute. Its official charter lists ₹200 a person from either airport, and that is the cheapest way there by a long way.

  • From Mopa: ₹150 to Mapusa and ₹200 to Panaji. Mapusa is useful for Anjuna and Saligao, with a short taxi after that.
  • From Dabolim: ₹150 to Panaji. Change there for most other North Goa towns.
  • Timing: departures are limited, and evening arrivals may miss the last bus. Check the current timetable on Kadamba's website.

Flights and the future of each airport

Mopa is gaining flights, while Dabolim stays open. A September 2026 report said 13 flights had moved to Mopa, with passenger traffic up 34% there and down 13% at Dabolim. In January 2026 the Defence Minister confirmed Dabolim would remain fully operational for civilian flights, so there is no need to avoid it. Do check your specific route, because airlines do not always serve both from every city.

Which to choose for your stay

Staying in Anjuna or Vagator

Pick Mopa. You could save up to half an hour of road time and a few hundred rupees. Read our guide to things to do in Anjuna once your flight is sorted.

Staying in Calangute or Baga

Prefer Mopa, unless Dabolim's flight is at a better time or saves more than about ₹500 a ticket. For two people, that saving would more than cover the usual taxi difference.

Staying in Saligao

Both work. On the figures we found, the road gap is only about 10 km, so let the flight decide. Our Saligao guide explains what is close by, and villas in Saligao are about 10 minutes by road from Calangute Beach. You will still drive to the sand from there. Ask our team about arrival arrangements, since pick-ups depend on dates.

Splitting your trip with South Goa

Fly into one and out of the other. Land at Mopa for the northern half, and leave from Dabolim after your time in the south. It saves one long drive back across the state.

One check before you pay

Read the airport code on your booking: GOX means Mopa, and GOI means Dabolim. Many sites simply say "Goa", and the two terminals are about 57 km apart by road. For more on arrival choices and what to confirm with a driver, see our Goa airport to North Goa guide.

Frequently asked questions

Is Mopa always cheaper to reach North Goa from?

Not always. The taxi is usually a little cheaper from Mopa, but a lower air fare into Dabolim can easily outweigh that. Add both costs per person before deciding.

Which airport is closer to Baga?

Mopa is slightly closer by most published figures, at about 32 to 38 km against about 45 km from Dabolim. Allow around an hour from Mopa and a little longer from Dabolim.

Is Dabolim closing?

No. It is still running passenger flights, even though some airlines have moved services to Mopa. Check the current schedule for your route.

What if I land late at night?

Use the prepaid counter or a pre-booked car, as buses will have stopped. Ask about any night charge up front so that the fare holds when you reach your stay.

Can I take a bus from the airport to Saligao?

Not directly. Take the Kadamba shuttle towards Mapusa or Calangute and finish with a short taxi ride, which suits light travellers more than families with bags.
