March is when Goa starts to warm up: dry days of about 32–34°C, rising humidity and calm seas, with thinner crowds and better rates than in peak season. March 2027 is also packed with festivals, including Holi around 22 March, the Shigmo spring festival with float parades across Goa, and Holy Week leading to Easter Sunday on 28 March. Plan beach time for mornings and evenings, and book early if your trip overlaps the Holi or Easter weekends.

Goa Weather in March: Hot, Dry and Getting Humid
March weather in Goa is hot and dry, with humidity climbing steadily through the month. Rain is rare, and most days are sunny from morning to sunset. The heat builds by late morning, so plan beaches, walks and sightseeing before 11 am and after 4 pm. A room or villa with a pool makes a real difference this month.
| March in North Goa | Typical conditions | What it means for your trip |
|---|---|---|
| Daytime high | About 32–34°C | Hot from late morning; keep midday for the pool or shade |
| Night-time low | About 22–24°C | Warm nights; air-conditioning helps you sleep well |
| Rain | Rare | No rain gear needed |
| Humidity | Rising through the month | Late March afternoons feel sticky |
| Sea | Usually calm and warm | Good for swimming and morning boat trips |
| Sunset | Around 6:40–6:50 pm | The longest beach evenings of the season so far |
| Crowds | Thinner than January–February, busier on Holi and Easter weekends | The first half of March is the quietest |
| Hotel and villa rates | Shoulder-season rates, usually below the winter peak | Good value outside festival weekends |

Sea Conditions and the Heat
The sea off North Goa is usually calm and warm in March, which makes early-morning swims especially pleasant. Candolim, Sinquerim, Ashwem and Mandrem are good choices for easy water. Afternoon sea breezes can make the surf a little choppier, so swim in the morning where you can. Drink more water than you think you need, use high-SPF sunscreen, and take a proper break in the shade at midday.
Crowds and Prices in Goa in March

March is shoulder season in North Goa, which means good weather at better value than December to February. Many long-stay winter visitors leave during the month, beaches feel more spacious, and restaurants are easier to book. School exams in many parts of India also fall around this time, so family travel is usually lighter until the summer holidays.
The exception is the last ten days of March 2027. Holi falls on Monday 22 March, creating a long weekend from 20 to 22 March, and Good Friday on 26 March starts the Easter weekend of 26 to 28 March. With two long weekends in the same week, some travellers will take 23–25 March off for a nine-day break, so expect busier roads, beaches and bookings in that window. For short breaks over these dates, see our Goa villas for a long weekend.
- Travel in the first half of March for the quietest beaches and easiest bookings.
- Book early if your dates include 20–28 March.
- Ask for a quote for your exact dates, since shoulder-season rates vary week to week.
- Choose a stay with a pool and good air-conditioning for the heat.

At Vilmaris, rooms start from ₹3,150 a night at Hotel Vilmaris Breeze and from ₹4,620 at Vilmaris Luxe Hotel, and whole villas start from ₹18,000 a night. Rates vary by season.
Festivals and Events in Goa in March 2027
March 2027 has four festival moments worth planning around: Maha Shivratri early in the month, Holi and Shigmo in the second half, and Holy Week ending with Easter. Some dates depend on the lunar calendar, so confirm them closer to your trip.
Maha Shivratri (Saturday 6 March)
Maha Shivratri is a night of prayer dedicated to Lord Shiva, and Goa's Shiva temples draw large crowds of devotees. The Shri Mangueshi Temple near Ponda is one of the best-known temples in Goa to visit around the festival. Dress modestly, expect queues, and check temple timings before you go.
Holi (21–22 March 2027)
Holi, the festival of colours, falls on Monday 22 March 2027, with Holika Dahan bonfires on the evening of Sunday 21 March. A few calendars place both a day later, so check the local date. In North Goa, Holi is often celebrated at hotels, beach venues and in private villas with colour play in the morning, music and food. Use natural colours, protect your phone in a zip-lock bag, and oil your hair and skin before you start. For group celebrations, see our Goa villas for Holi.

Shigmo Festival (Late March, Possibly Into April)
Shigmo is Goa's Hindu spring festival, known for folk dances such as Ghode Modni and Romta Mel and for large, hand-built floats showing scenes from the Ramayana and Mahabharata. The big town parades follow Holi and move from town to town over about two weeks. In 2026, when Holi fell in early March, parades ran in March across towns including Panaji, Mapusa and Calangute. Holi falls later in 2027, and Goa Tourism's tentative calendar lists Shigmo for March 2027, so parades are likely from late March and may continue into April. Goa Tourism publishes the parade schedule a few weeks ahead.
Holy Week and Easter (21–28 March 2027)
Holy Week runs from Palm Sunday on 21 March to Easter Sunday on 28 March 2027, with Good Friday on 26 March. Churches across Goa hold services all week, including the Se Cathedral in Old Goa, Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception in Panaji, St Alex Church in Calangute and Mãe de Deus Church in Saligao. Good Friday is a solemn day, while Easter Sunday is a family celebration. Visitors are welcome at services if they dress modestly and arrive early.

Best Beaches and Things to Do in Goa in March
March rewards an early start. Do the active things in the morning, rest at midday, and head out again for sunset.
Beach Mornings and Sunset Evenings
Morning is the best time for the beach in March. Candolim and Sinquerim are calm and uncrowded early in the day, while Ashwem, Mandrem and Morjim in the far north are quiet all month. In the evening, go to Anjuna or Vagator, or climb to Chapora Fort for the sunset. Calangute and Baga stay lively after dark.
Cashew Season and Urrak
March is the start of the cashew season in Goa. Cashew fruit ripens in orchards across the state, and villages begin distilling urrak, the lighter first distillate that later becomes cashew feni, usually from around March to May. You will find urrak in local bars and some restaurants in season. Our North Goa food trail covers Goan dishes and drinks worth trying.
Markets, Forts and Heritage

- Anjuna Flea Market: Wednesdays; the season usually runs until about April.
- Arpora Saturday Night Market: Saturday evenings, also usually open until about April.
- Mapusa Friday Market: good for cashews, spices and Goan sausages.
- Fort Aguada and Reis Magos Fort: go early, before the heat builds.
- Old Goa and Fontainhas: visit in the morning; both are busy during Holy Week.
Water Sports and Boat Trips
Water sports and dolphin-spotting trips keep running through March, usually until the monsoon break later in the year. Morning trips from Sinquerim and Candolim have the calmest water. Use licensed operators and wear the life jacket provided.

A Sample 4-Day North Goa Plan for March
March is a great time to explore North Goa, but the afternoon heat can be tiring. A comfortable itinerary is to keep sightseeing and outdoor activities for the morning, take a slower break during the afternoon and head out again in the evening.
You can spend your first day exploring the beaches and nearby cafés, keep the second day for popular North Goa attractions, and use the afternoon to relax by the pool. The remaining days can be planned around beaches, shopping, local food and nightlife.
If your trip coincides with Holi, you can adjust the itinerary and keep 22 March as your Holi day, depending on the year and the festival calendar.
- Day 1 – Arrive and cool off: Land at Mopa or Dabolim, both about 45–60 minutes from Calangute, Anjuna and Saligao. Spend the afternoon in the pool, then watch the sunset from Candolim.
- Day 2 – Colours or coastline: Join a Holi celebration in the morning if your dates match, or take an early dolphin trip from Sinquerim. Rest at midday, then have dinner in Calangute.
- Day 3 – Heritage before the heat: Visit Old Goa and Fontainhas early. In the evening, watch a Shigmo parade if one is scheduled nearby, or attend an Easter service if you are here in Holy Week.
- Day 4 – Anjuna and Vagator: Shop at the Anjuna Flea Market if it is a Wednesday, swim at Ashwem, and end with sunset at Chapora Fort.
