Where Each Area Actually Fits

Calangute is the default and the busiest. Baga is the night. Candolim and Sinquerim are longer and calmer, with Fort Aguada at the end. Anjuna is cliffs, cafés and the seasonal market. Vagator is coves and sunsets. Saligao and Arpora are inland villages, ten to fifteen minutes back from the coast, which is where most of the villas are. Pick the area first, then the property.

North Goa Areas And Who They Suit

Seven areas, a one-line verdict on each, and the Vilmaris address in it.

Area Verdicts

  • Calangute: the central default, busiest beach, home to Vilmaris Luxe Hotel
  • Baga: shacks and late nights; the nearest villa is Casa Palacio in Arpora
  • Candolim and Sinquerim: calmer sand and Fort Aguada, served by Hotel Vilmaris Breeze
  • Anjuna: cliffs, cafés and two villas, Anjuna Woods and Courtyard Villa
  • Vagator: coves and Chapora Fort, reached in ten minutes from Anjuna
  • Saligao and Arpora: inland villages holding Sunridge and Casa Palacio

Inclusions

Wherever you land, the villas run on the same footing: whole-house bookings, private pool, air conditioning, villa manager, housekeeping, chef on call, BBQ setup, parking and power backup. The hotels work per room, with a pool, restaurant and reception on site. Ask ahead and the villa team will line up transfers, a spa session or a day plan.

Location guide

The six addresses are Gauravaddo in Calangute, Gaura Waddo in Sinquerim, Grand Morrod in Saligao, Arpora-Baga Road in Arpora, and Mazal Waddo and Bouta Waddo in Anjuna. All sit in Bardez taluka within about half an hour of one another. Every one of them is under an hour from Mopa airport by road.

— FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Which North Goa area is best for a first visit?

Calangute, because it is central. Vilmaris Luxe Hotel stands in Gauravaddo, with Candolim roughly eight minutes south and Tito's Lane ten minutes north. Basing yourself there lets you sample both directions before deciding which corner you actually like.

Where should a family with young children stay?

Saligao, if you want a villa. It is a quiet inland village about ten minutes from Calangute, and the Sunridge villas there have private pools, a common garden and gated parking. For a hotel, Candolim and Sinquerim are calmer than Calangute or Baga.

Which area is the quietest?

Saligao and Arpora, because they are inland villages rather than beach strips. Vagator is the quietest of the beach areas, since its sand is split into separate coves. Anjuna sits in between: quiet on the lanes, busy on the cliff road.

Where do you stay for nightlife?

Arpora, next to Baga. Tito's Lane and the Baga shacks are about five minutes from Casa Palacio on Arpora-Baga Road, and Vilmaris Luxe reaches the same lane in about ten. Staying a few minutes inland is what makes a late night survivable the next morning.

How long is the drive in from Mopa airport?

Reckon on forty to sixty minutes to Calangute, Anjuna, Saligao or Arpora. Dabolim runs a little longer from all four. Add time in peak season and on festival weekends, when the Mapusa and Calangute approaches slow down.
